Storyline Rating : 4/5 stars
Series : Book 1 of Everneath
Brief Summary from Goodreads :
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.
As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.
My Point of View :
I really enjoyed the book! It is written base on Orpheus and Eurydice myth instead of normal Greek myth that normally includes the 3 “big” gods – Zeus, Poseidon and Hades (Well….the story did touched a little on Hades). When I bought the book, I really wasn’t expecting it to be a “Greek-myth” related book though. I mean, by looking at the cover and then the summary behind the cover, I thought it would be something paranormal like vampire….or demon? Just not anything “Greek-myth” related.
Basically, Everneath is Hell (one would not really understand how Everneath works till the second book). Nikki was missing for 6 months because she was brought to Everneath for a Feeding – an event where her happiness/life force is sucked out of her, by Cole. Afterwards, she somehow came back alive to the Surface, which is the Earth, but with only 6 months time limit. It was during this 6 months, Nikki reconnected with Jack.
I really really do love Jack ❤
He still loved Nikki despite the fact that she when missing for 6 months and was suspected for taking drugs! Who wouldn’t want such a sweet and loving boyfriend/guy.
As for the other guy in this book, Cole….he sounds cold to me. I have the same feeling as Nikki as she is continuously bugged by Cole. God…how I wish I can kick his ass.
Overall, its a nice book and its worth reading for those who love Greek mythology.
