My Point of View :

A sweet and straight-forward story – not the “complicated romance” type of book that I normally read (you know….betrayal, love triangle…etc). It’s a relief that I get to read something that is not focused on sex. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy reading sex-turn-love kind of story. It’s just that sometimes you need a break from reading the same thing over and over again.

Last Heartbeat begins with a prologue that indicates Alexia at the verge of dying from a heart disease, and received a heart transplant when she thought all hope is lost. Fast-forward to 5 years later, Alexia is heading to college and she happens to meet this boy, Philip Ryan at the airport. As the story alternates between Alexia and Philip’s POV, we know that both of them “clicked” the first time they look into each others eyes. What’s more, they have quite a number of similar interests – such as heading to the same college, both took a year off before attending college….etc. The story proceeds to how Alexia and Philip fall in love, and how both of them struggle to tell each other about their surgery (Philip had a liver transplant), as both of them do not want to break the other person’s heart if they die from organ rejection.

What I do like about this book is there are no love triangle, I don’t have to constantly worry about who the heroine chooses at the end. I do find Megan annoying though…and I am curious – do such a girl exist? How is it that she don’t get the part where Philip does NOT want her? She keeps coming back again and again, I was so glad when she finally backed off.

Well, it’s a good read if you want to read the type of romance that is sweet and simple.

P.S. I almost thought Alexia would die in the end because of the title. I mean, who am I kidding – The LAST Heartbeat.
